Sony’s Xperia Z4 might not launch at MWC
Last year we’ve seen not one, but two flagship smartphones from Sony: the Xperia Z2, announced at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and the Xperia Z3, introduced at the 2014 International Radio Show in Berlin. With the likes of Samsung and HTC expected to showcase its latest flagship smart phones for 2015, Sony Mobile appears not to be announcing its upcoming Xperia Z4 just yet.
Sony’s flagship Xperia Z series typically launch just six months after its predecessor. Although this meant that every half year Sony comes out with a top-of-the-range smartphone with some of the latest features and hardware, it has also proved to be a risky strategy.
Sony’s smartphone business is struggling, so this new approach could be in response to this. That’s the claim put forth by Sony fan website Xperia Blog. According to its calculations, everything suggests that Sony is aiming for a summer release for its next big phone. The folks at Xperia Blog have heard from their sources that Sony might not be announcing the Xperia Z4 at MWC 2015. Instead it seems that Sony might be choosing to launch their next-gen flagship smartphone in the summer.
Supporting this rumor is the original Bond movie pitch, where Sony Studios informed the world that the Xperia Z4 phones might be landing in May/November.
Sony, however, has recently released the purple Xperia Z3, and the company might place that in the spotlight at MWC as the flagship phone, in addition to other possible low-end or mid-range phones it is planning on unveiling. Not releasing the Z4 at MWC, however, could harm Sony’s image in the smartphone business.
This isn’t definitive word, so Xperia fans can certainly hold out hope for a big announcement from Sony at MWC. Either way we’ll know in less than two months.
