Micromax’s Yu Yureka with Cyanogen OS launched at Rs. 8,999
On Thursday, Micromax launched a new series of smartphones under its CyanogenMod based Yu brand. The smartphone, priced at Rs. 8,999, will go up for registrations via Amazon on Friday (2pm IST), and it will start shipping in the second week of January.
The Cyanogen OS 11 build is based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat, and an Android 5.0 Lollipop-based build is promised by company.
The Yureka features a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, with a pixel density of 267ppi. Unlike OnePlus One the panel is not full-HD and this implies that the number of pixels per inch are less. The display has Gorilla Glass 3 to protect against scratches and an oleo-phobic coating to prevent smudging.
Cyanogen OS provides a host of customisations which you may not find in official Android smartphones. Interestingly, you can choose between using hardware capacitive keys and soft on-screen navigation keys, blacklist and block phone numbers, password protect or hide apps and sync app and game data through Baton. Micromax has promised that the phone will soon get the Android Lollipop update.
Micromax Yureka sports the latest internals and is one of the cheapest devices to offer 4G connectivity and a chip based on 64 bit architecture. The Yu Yureka has a 13-megapixel Sony Exmor CMOS sensor rear autofocus camera with an f/2.2 aperture and flash. A front-facing 5-megapixel fixed-focus camera is also provided. It runs on a 64-bit 1.5GHz Octa-core Snapdragon 615 SoC (MSM8939), coupled with Adreno 405 GPU and 2GB of RAM. The Yureka comes with 16GB of on board storage expandable up to 32 GB using a microSD card.
Yureka comes with a 2500mAh Li-Po battery claiming talk time up to 8 hours, standby time up to 310 hours, video playback time of up to six hours, and gaming up to 4 hours.
At Rs 8,999, the YU Yureka phone seems to be a really good deal if you’re looking for a phone that offers a good combination of modern hardware and software that offers a higher level of customization.
